Box Score Caldwell, NJ- The #2 North Division seeded
Felician College Falcons (23-6, 14-4 CACC) shocked the two-time
defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champions
and #1 South Division Philadelphia University Rams (25-7, 16-1
CACC) 90-77 in overtime in the CACC Semifinals on Friday afternoon
at Caldwell College's Newman Center.
The #3 NCAA East ranked Rams will now await word during the NCAA
Selection Sunday (3/7) at 9:30 p.m. to see what their seed will
be in the NCAA East Regional Tournament, which begins on Saturday
(3/14).
PhilaU-led by senior guard Russell Frederick's
(Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) 21 points and seven assists, was
outshot 43%-38% for the contest. FC's Devon Young led all
scorers with 39 points and six rebounds. The Rams shot just
26% from the free-throw line.
The Rams dominated most of regulation, as two made free-throws
from freshman guard Jim Connolly (Harleysville,
PA/ Souderton) gave PhilaU a 24-22 at 9:32 in the first half- an
advantage they would hold until a 76-76 tie with nine seconds
remaining in the game. Connolly had 13 points and six boards
in the contest.
The maroon and grey went on a 27-6 run, keyed by 10 points from
sophomore forward Corey Francisco (Woodbridge, NJ/
Monmouth Academy) to make it 45-26 at the half. Francisco
finished with 10 points.
The momentum changed in the second half as FC cut the PhilaU
lead to just six (65-59) at the 7:00 mark, on a trey by Antoine
Obery. Obery had 32 points/14 rebounds for the Falcons.
FC's Young hit another trey with nine seconds remaining to tie
it 76 and a Frederick layup spun out as the game rolled into
overtime. PhilaU scored just one point in the OT period, as
the game was won at the charity stripe with FC going 10-14 in the
extra period.
The CACC Men's Basketball Championship will be played tomorrow
(Saturday, 3/6) at 4 p.m. as Felician awaits the winner of N#1
Bloomfield v. S#2 Goldey-Beacom.
