Box Score Philadelphia, PA- Snow could not deter the
Philadelphia University Rams (19-6, 11-1 CACC) from their
10th-straight win, this time a 71-59 womper over the
Holy Family University Tigers (1-20, 1-10 CACC) on Friday
afternoon.
The win- Coach Herb Magee's 899th-
puts him within one of 900 all-time wins during his 43 year
coaching career-all at PhilaU. Coach Magee could hit that
milestone in 24 hours and become just the third NCAA men's coach to
ever reach 900 or more victories.
Senior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia,
PA/ Solebury Prep) led all scorers with 21 points and six
rebounds. HFU was led by Justin Swidowski's 17 points.
The Rams held off a bothersome Tiger squad in the first half, as
HFU shot 54% in that stanza to PhilaU's 42%. The Tigers
scratched to within one (31-30) on a trey by Khiry Hankins at 3:43,
but PhilaU senior guard Marcus Lemon (Alexandria,
VA/ T.C. Williams) knocked down a free throw to keep his squad on
top. Lemon had 12 points, nine boards and three assists on
the day.
PhilaU led 40-32 at the break.
PhilaU held the stat advantage in two key categories:
rebounds (36 to HFU's 27) and turnovers (9 to HFU's 17).
The Rams led by as many as 16 points (four times) in the second
half, as PhilaU senior guard Russell Frederick
(Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) banked a trey to give the Rams a
71-55 lead at 2:33 remaining. Frederick added 18 points and
seven rebounds and assists, respectively.
Magee's squad held on for the 71-59 final and gear up for their
next contest in less than a day.
The Rams return to the hardwood tomorrow (Saturday, 2/13) to
host the Bloomfield College Deacons at 4 p.m. at the Gallagher
Athletic Center on Herb Magee Court. The day is also PhilaU's
'Think Pink' event to support breast cancer research, fans
are invited to wear pink in support.
