Box Score Kutztown, PA- Junior guard Russell Frederick (Baltimore, MD/
Calvert Hall) scored a career-high 29 points, but the Philadelphia
University Rams (5-2, 2-0 CACC) could not stop the Kutztown
University Golden Bears (8-0, 0-0 PSAC) in a 68-60 non-conference
loss. The Golden Bears are off their best start in school
history- an undefeated 8-0 this season.
The Rams were held to 31% shooting from field goal range, and
4-17 from three-point land.
The Golden Bears led by as many as six points in the first half,
but the Rams would not quit as Frederick's bucket at 6:03 tied it
22-22 and his ensuing layup gave PhilaU a brief two-point
lead. KU went on a 6-0 run to end the first stanza, rallying
to a 30-24 advantage at halftime.
KU continued their run in the second half, holding PhilaU
scoreless for nearly seven combined minutes between halves until
junior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep)
broke the silence with a layup at 18:13. Ingram had nine
points and 15 boards on the afternoon.
A jumper by KU's Stephen Dennis at 13:22 would give the Golden
Bear's their largest lead of the contest, up 49-35.
The Rams got within four points as Frederick sunk a layup with
just 1:25 remaining in regulation, but KU went 7-8 from the
free-throw line in the final minute to take a 68-60 win.
The Rams also got strong performances from junior forward Marcus
Lemon (Alexandria, VA/ T.C. Williams) with 13 points and three
rebounds, as well as junior Mike Yocum (Drescher, PA/ Episcopal
Academy) had nine points and 12 boards.
PhilaU will travel to Pace University on Monday, December 22nd
for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match-up.
