Stephanie Carideo joined the Jefferson men’s basketball program as an assistant coach in 2018-19 under Naismith Hall of Fame head coach Herb Magee.
Carideo recently served as the women’s basketball head coach at Penn State Abington for two seasons (2013-14, 2014-15). There she went 5-16 her first season before setting a program record for wins while going 22-5 in 2014-15 as she was named the NEAC Coach of the Year and the Nittany Lions' Jim McGettigan Coach of the Year. It marked the first time that the PSU Abington women’s basketball program made the NEAC playoffs, hosted a postseason game, won the conference championship and made it to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to coming to Abington, Carideo spent a year as head coach at John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School in Philadelphia, Pa. where she was involved in scouting, recruiting and player development as well as fundraising and developing community relations programming.
She returned to East Falls and the athletic department after playing for the Rams under current women’s basketball head coach Tom Shirley. A two-time CACC all-conference selection, Carideo concluded her career (2007-12) as a Ram with 1078 points, 405 rebounds, 400 assists and 223 steals.
A 2007 graduate of Lower Cape May High School, Carideo registered 1,001 career points and was eventually inducted into the Lower Cape May Athletic Hall of Fame.
Carideo earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2011 and master's degree in business administration in 2012 from Philadelphia University. She and her husband, Chris, the head men’s basketball coach at Widener University, reside in Ridley, Pa. with their two sons, Christopher Jr. and Carson.
