Softball Sweeps Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Thomas Jefferson University softball (11-11, 2-2) headed down Henry Avenue and visited Chestnut Hill College (4-14, 0-6) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday. The Rams took both contests over the Griffins. 

WHAT HAPPENED 
GAME ONE: W, 11-5 

• First game was scoreless for the first two innings before Rozalee Negron hit a sacrifice flyout to give Jefferson a 1-0 lead in the third. Chestnut Hill took the lead in the bottom of the same inning on a two-run single to left field 

• An error in the fourth and fifth inning allowed three Ram runners to score. Jefferson used that momentum to get four runs in the sixth with a Kalina Childers grounded out RBI and an RBI single from Negron, Liv Stevens, and Devin Brandley to have it at 8-2 

• Chestnut Hill scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, but Negron's three RBI double rounded out the Ram scoring. The Griffins put on two more, but Jefferson ended game one with a 11-5 victory 

• Delaney Alix pitched the first six innings for the Rams while MaryKate Armstrong rounded out the pitching

GAME TWO: W, 12-1 (5 INNINGS) 

• Jefferson looked to get the sweep as they put up seven runs in the second inning of game two. Ella Wheeler had an RBI single to right field while Negron got a two RBI single up the middle for a 3-0 lead. MacKenzie Ward joined in on the action with an RBI double. A Griffins error had two more runs come in with Devin Brandley RBI single turning the game to an early 7-0 lead for the Rams 

• Chestnut Hill scored in the same inning but Jefferson went to secure the next five runs. Ward had a two RBI single in the third, Sabrina Pastino made it to homeplate on a wild pitch in the fourth, and Madeline Holmes hit a RBI double with Vanessa Harrity got another runner in on a single to have the contest at 12-1 in the fourth 

• The Griffins got a double at their first at-bat in the fifth, but Jefferson got a line out, grounded out, and pop out to end the fifth inning and win 12-1 

• Lauren Bernaiche got the win with three innings pitched while Bailey Maloney finished out the rest of the game for the Rams
