Hood's Game Winner Helps Women's Lacrosse Splits Weekend Games


PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse (2-5) had a two-game stint down at Ravenhill this weekend as the Rams took on Lock Haven University (2-3) and Southern New Hampshire University (3-2). Jefferson got a goal by Taylor Hood with 29 seconds to go in a 13-12 win over the Bald Eagles while the Penmen had their own comeback with two goals under two minutes to defeat the Rams 9-8. 

WHAT HAPPENED 
GAME ONE: W, 13-12 VS LOCK HAVEN 

  • Lock Haven looked to run away with this game with three early first quarter goals to start out. Lilly Lutz made a goal but the Bald Eagles responded quickly 

  • Lutz produced a goal with a man up with Lock Haven doing the same seven minutes later 

  • Avanzato's goal with a man down tied it up while Modzelewski's shot in the net gave the Rams the lead 

  • Lock Haven responded to tie the game 6-6 at the break 

  • The Bald Eagles got ahead early in the third with two goals around the 7:56 and 6:23 mark. Jefferson responded with three straight from Emma Baker, Ryder, and Hood to go ahead 10-8 in the fourth 

  • Lock Haven scored while Iris Gluck made her own attempt to keep it a two-score game. The Bald Eagles responded with two straight to tie it up 

  • After a Baker goal and a Schiemer shot that went in on a man up, Hood made the play of the day with her shot going in with 29 seconds to go as the Rams earned a 13-12 non-conference victory

After this game, Jefferson junior Iris Gluck reached a milestone as she had 150 draw controls in her career. She is ninth in school history with 67 draw controls in a single season last year 

GAME TWO: L, 9-8 VS SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE 

  • The second game saw more defensive work in the game with neither team going over 10 goals this game 

  • The Penmen scored the first two goals, but the Rams had their own as Baker and Reagan Rogers scored to make it 2-2 heading to the second 

  • After a Southern New Hampshire goal to start the second, Avanzato and Ryder had goals to take the lead for the Rams as they went in the break ahead 4-3 

  • The Penmen tied the game in the third with three goals. Rogers added two in the quarter to keep the Rams in the match as they headed into the fourth 

  • Lutz got a man up goal while Hood delivered her shot in the net to make it 8-6 with 11:48 to go. Southern New Hampshire got a goal with 7:39 to trail by one 

  • The Penmen used strong defensive pressure to get the back and get two goals within 44 seconds of each other to go ahead and defeat Jefferson 9-8
