Softball Completes Weekend Games

VIERA, Fla. - Thomas Jefferson University softball (1-7) had their stretch of games this weekend, competing four times in two days. The Rams went against Cedarville University, Thomas More University, Columbus State University, and D'Youville University. 

GAME ONE: L, 9-0 (FIVE INNINGS) VS CEDARVILLE 

• The Yellow Jackets produced six runs in the sixth inning and three in the fourth. Annie Eliason and MacKenzie Ward had a hit on the game for Jefferson

GAME TWO: L, 1-0 VS THOMAS MORE 

• The Rams and Saints had a great outing defensively, with neither team allowing an earned run on the night 

• Thomas More capitalized on a throwing error in the third to get a run on the board. Jefferson got as close as second base but could not capitalize 

• Delaney Alix pitched all seven innings for the Rams, allowing only two hits and one run, with that run not being earned, while striking out nine batters on the night 

• Sydnie Lanasa and Remy Smith each recorded a hit on the night for Jefferson

GAME THREE: L, 4-3 (8 INNINGS) VS COLUMBUS STATE 

• The Cougars got out to an early lead as a double and single brought a runner to homeplate for a 2-0 Columbus State lead. They added to that in the fourth with a score to be up 3-0 

• Jefferson got the game evened up in the fifth. Smith nailed a two-run triple and got to homeplate herself on a ground out by Bridget Shields to make it 3-3 

• Lily Hutt pitched the first seven innings for Jefferson, striking out three batters while allowing seven hits on the day 

• The Rams and Cougars did not allow another run in the next two innings, making the game go into extras 

• In the eighth, Columbus State had a single to center field that gave them the leading score and took out Jefferson's next three batters to earn the win

GAME FOUR: L, 8-3 VS D'YOUVILLE 

• Jefferson showed up early in the game as Madeliene Holmes single to left field brought one Ram to homeplate while Claudia Alldred two-run single to center field got them ahead 3-0 in the first 

• The Rams held strong in the first four innings, only allowing a Saint runner to make to second base during that period 

• D'Youville got on the board after an error allowed two runners to homeplate in the bottom of the fifth inning 

• After recording two outs, Jefferson looked to slam the door on the Saints in the sixth. The Saints, however, capitalized on Rams mistakes and got hits that let them score six runs in the bottom of the sixth 

• Jefferson only got as far as second base in the seventh as D'Youville took the 8-3 win 

• Alix pitched five innings, allowed only one hit and two runs, with none of them being earned, while having three stirkeouts. Devin Brandley pitched one inning, allowing four hits on the day

The Rams will end their time at the Space Coast Spring Games as they compete on Tuesday, March 11. Jefferson will go against the University of Minnesota Crookston at 10 a.m. while rematching D'Youvlle at 2:30 p.m.
