Women's Tennis Claims No.1 Seed; Defeats Wilmington for Top Spot
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University women's tennis (10-0, 8-0) went down 1-0 to Wilmington University (Del.) (7-2, 7-2) on Saturday before the game was postponed due to weather conditions. The match resumed Monday, where the Rams made a rally and secured the final two points to earn a 4-3 victory over the Wildcats in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The doubles match went in favor of Wilmington, earning wins in the second and third position. Anouk Oderker and Alycia Veroux got a 6-4 victory in the first doubles match after the fact
- Heading into singles action, the weather did not permit any sort of playable conditions for either squad, forcing a postponement of the match
- With the contest resumed on Monday, October 13 at Legacy Tennis Courts, Jefferson earned their first point with Oderkerk taking the first singles match
- After the Wildcats won the second spot, Madina Omarova secured the victory in the third position to tie it at 2-2. Wilmington won the fourth position and was in line to earn a victory with one more point in either of the final two matches
- Marely Alvarado held off her opponent and won 6-2, 6-1 in the fifth spot to even it at 3-3 and making the final match determine who wins the contest and what seeds could be set for the CACC Championship
- Rose Huang pulled off the win in the sixth spot, 6-4, 6-2, securing the Rams a 4-3 win over the Wildcats for the second time this season

After defeating the Wildcats for the second time this season, the Rams have now secured the top-seed heading into the CACC Championships this weekend. They will take on the No.4 seed on Saturday, October 18.
UP NEXT
Jefferson will now have their work cut out for them as they have two straight CACC road matches before they can get ready for the CACC Championships. The first contest will be played at Waterbury, Connecticut as the Rams take on Post University on Tuesday, October 14 at 12:30 p.m. The Rams defeated the Eagles 7-0 on October 2 at home.
