Men's Soccer Keeps Unbeaten Streak; Defeats District of Columbia 3-1 


WASHINGTON, D.C. - Thomas Jefferson University men's soccer team (6-0-1) continue to push for one of their best starts in recent memory as the Rams went on the road to earn the 3-1 non-conference victory over the University of the District of Columbia (1-4-2) in Tuesday afternoon action.

WHAT HAPPENED 

  • Jefferson got out on the board first in the 13th minute as Mateo Infante scored a goal, with Kai Mangahas assisting him, to get an early lead for the Rams 

  • The Firebirds responded with a goal in the 22nd minute, tying the contest up 

  • Before the game reaches halftime, Diego Guzman put his shot in the back of the net at the 43:12 mark with a TJ Hibsman assist to have the Rams head into the half up 2-1 

  • John Nelson made four of his six saves in the first half 

  • District of Columbia was able to have more shots in the first half (9) than Jefferson (8) 

  • Both teams were physical in the second half, seeing four of the five total yellow cards appear in the second half 

  • Gabe Paz put the dagger in the match, scoring at the 76th minute to put the match away and give Jefferson a 3-1 victory 

  • The Rams took 10 shots while holding the Firebirds to five

Before the game today, the Rams were receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' Top-25 poll that was released this afternoon.  

HOT START 
After seven matches the Rams are 6-0-1. Jefferson has gotten off to their best start since 1999 when they had the same record. The Rams looks to improve their record and continue their winning streak. 

UP NEXT 
Jefferson puts their six-game winning streak on the line this Saturday, September 28 on Homecoming weekend as the Rams host the University of Bridgeport at 2:30 p.m.
