Softball Splits Doubleheader with Georgian Court 


LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Thomas Jefferson University softball team (11-20, 5-15) earned three runs in the fourth and sixth inning as they held onto a game two win and secured a split against Georgian Court University (20-22, 12-8) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Tuesday. 

WHAT HAPPENED 
GAME TWO: W, 6-4 

Both teams were unable to register a score in the first three innings. The Lions had a chance with a runner on third in bottom of the first, but the Rams held on. Jefferson got on the board in the top of the fourth with an error by Georgian Court allowing Ellie Egher to score the first run of the game. MacKenzie Ward single to center field and Rozalee Negron single to the middle tacked on two more scores for the Rams, putting them up 3-0.  

After a scoreless fifth by both teams, Jefferson began to put more runs with another three runners making it to homeplate in the top of the sixth. Sabrina Pastino single to second base gave Remy Smith time to round third base and secure homeplate on the throw by the Lions. Egher and Victoria Juckniewitz each hit a single to the opposite side of the outfield, getting another two runs in for Jefferson and holding a 6-0 lead. 

Georgian Court slowly climbed back with one run in the bottom of the sixth and three more in the seventh inning, with the Lions trailing 6-4 with the tying run at bat and one out. A fly out and Gianna DeLorenzo recording her fourth strikeout of the game ended the series and gave Jefferson the 6-4 win.

GAME ONE: L, 11-3 (FIVE INNINGS) 
Georgian Court started the day with three runs in the first inning off of two singles to the outfield. The Rams got on the board with Sage Bolonski hitting a sacrifice fly to let Juckniewitz to homeplate and cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the second. The Lions added four more runs by way of two doubles, with one being a three run RBI to extend their lead to 7-1.  

Bolonski once more got out at bat to help her teammate make homeplate, this time a bunt to help Cayla Kalani scored. Gergian Court added four more runs in the fourth inning, jumping their lead to 11-2. Annabella Zito double to the left line got Annie Eliason a score, but were unable to get back in the fifth inning as the Lions won 11-3 in five innings.

UP NEXT 
Jefferson concludes their regular season on the road on Wednesday when they travel close by to take on CACC rival Chestnut Hill College. The first game begins at 2 p.m.
