Men's Basketball Surges to Fourth Straight Win Over Dominican
ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - Having a three point lead with 9:56 left in the game, the Rams would go on a 32-16 run as the Thomas Jefferson University men's basketball team (12-7) would finish their road game with a 93-74 non-conference win over Dominican University of New York (11-6) in Thursday evening competition.
WHAT HAPPENED
Both teams would open the game with five straight points, as the first half would show both teams even offensive attack. Jefferson would shoot 50.0% on the field (13-26) while the Chargers would shoot 48.1% (13-27). Hakim Byrd would make one of his 3 first half three-point shots in the game, having 11 in the first half, to make the game 10-8. Dominican would strive out to be in front, but the Rams would trail by five as they'd see Byrd, Bismark Nsiah, and Erik Timko would hit shots from beyond the arc to be out front 20-18 with 10:10 to go before the break. The Chargers would respond with their own three and stay ahead of Jefferson for the next five minutes. With Dominican up 32-26, the Rams would end the first half on a 15-5 run with Ahmed Barba-Bey, Ashton Miller, and Timko all scoring at least four points as Jefferson went into the break up 41-37.
After a Antonin Kemkeng score, Dominican would score the next 10 points and retake the lead 47-43. Timko would hit a layup and Byrd made his shot from beyond the arc, helping him score three of his 14 points in the second half, to get the Rams back up 48-47. The Chargers and Rams would trade points and the lead, with Jefferson eventually getting ahead 59-53. Jaden Honis would make his and-one to get within three for Dominican. With the game at 61-58, Byrd and Nsiah would make three pointers to put their lead up at nine. Timko would convert on his and-one while Nsiah made another three to add to their lead at 73-60. Byrd and Timko would keep Jefferson's long range shots going as they'd make two more threes, with Byrd having seven throughout the game, while Barba-Bey hit the layup as the Rams would begin to cruise to the last nine minutes and earn the 93-74 win.
