Volleyball Concludes Home Tri-Match With Split Against Chestnut Hill and Adelphi
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University women's volleyball (6-7, 3-0) hosted a tri-match in the Gallagher Center where they split their games between a victory against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Chestnut Hill College (3-6, 2-1) followed by a defeat to Adelphi University (7-4) in Saturday afternoon action.
Match one: W, 3-1 vs CHESTNUT HILL
The first set started off strong for both teams, with Jefferson holding onto a 5-4 lead before taking the next four points. After a back-and-forth, with the Rams up 18-13, Jefferson took seven of the last 10 points to win set one 25-16.
Chestnut went ahead for a 3-0 lead to begin the second set. Jefferson responded by scoring the next four points. Both teams continued to trade points and have it even at 9-9. Jefferson would score the next four points to jump ahead, but the Griffins responded with a 6-1 run to go up 15-14. Continuous runs would have the game even once more at 20-20. Jefferson would take the second set on a 5-1 run to win 25-21 and be up 2-0.
Chestnut Hill jumped out in the third with four straight points. The Griffins would keep the attack going as they would extend their lead to 10-4. Jefferson would cut it to 12-9, but three more points for Chestnut Hill kept them ahead. The Griffins would keep the attack going and take the third set 25-20, forcing a fourth set.
Chestnut Hill would look to make a fifth set happen as they had it tied 2-2 early in the set. Jefferson took the offensive in the fourth as they went on a 14-2 run to go up 16-4. After continuous points were traded, the Rams would earn six of the last eight points to win the fourth set 25-10 and earn a 3-1 CACC victory.

MATCH TWO: L, 1-3 vs ADELPHI
The second game began with both teams jumping out to a 4-4 tie before six straight points from the Panthers gave Adelphi the lead. The Rams were fighting to catch up, but Adelphi kept their lead to 15-10. Jefferson then would score four points in a row to get within one before the Panthers added four straight of their own. Down 23-19, the Rams were able to respond with a 5-1 run to make the game all tied up at 24-24 and push the set to go beyond the 25 point mark. Jefferson would take the lead twice, but Adelphi caught back up and eventually scored the last three points of the set to win the first one 29-27.
It was even to begin the second set, with the same even momentum between two teams tied at 6-6. Jefferson scored four in a row to go up 10-6. Adelphi responded accordingly, catching up to the Rams as they trailed 14-11. The Panthers then would score the next five points to take the lead, then eventually four points in a row as well to be up 23-18. Jefferson climbed back to get within three, but the Panthers would score the last point and take set two 25-22.
Jefferson would try to get an early advantage as they scored the first three points of set three, but the Panthers would score the next five right after. Adelphi would continue their momentum, pushing the lead to 11-6. The Rams were still in striking distance, eventually tying the score up at 17-17 with a five point rally. Adelphi would retake the lead and finish the last set by scoring four of the last six points to win 25-22 and earn the 3-0 victory.
