Baseball Ends Regular Season With Split at Bloomfield

NEWARK, N.J. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (26-20, 15-9 CACC) split a doubleheader at Bloomfield (17-29, 12-13 CACC) to close the regular season on Wednesday.
 
GAME ONE – L, 12-11 (8 inn.)
Chris McLean led off the second with a home run to put the Rams ahead 1-0. In the third, the Bears hit three straight singles and tied the score before later recording a two-run double for a 3-1 lead. Jefferson answered with three runs in the fourth to regain the advantage. Gabe Silva smashed a homer and Diego Santiago recorded a two-run double.
 
The lead changed again in the fifth when Bloomfield hit back-to-back RBI singles with two outs. The Rams responded with another three-run frame in the sixth to go in front 7-5. Nick Squazzo crushed a two-run home run and Marquise Wood drove in a run with a base hit. Jefferson was three outs away from victory in the seventh but the first three Bears hitters reached, the last with a two-run, game-tying double, and the game went into extras.
 
The Rams went ahead once more with four runs in the eighth. Joe Cencetti drew a bases-loaded walk, McLean scored on an error, and two runs came home on a Santiago sacrifice fly. However, Bloomfield rallied for five runs in the bottom of the inning, hitting two home runs and walking it off with a ground-rule double.

Jefferson pounded out 12 runs on eight hits, four of them home runs, in the opening inning to take a commanding 12-0 lead. Chris McLean, Marquise Wood, Josh Lopez, and Gabe Silva all went deep. AJ Churaman went six innings for the win, allowing three runs and four hits while striking out 11. The Rams had another big frame with seven runs in the sixth as McLean and Wood both hit their second homers of the contest.
