PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (16-13, 5-3 CACC) used its offense in the opener and its pitching in the nightcap to sweep a CACC doubleheader versus Bridgeport (7-22, 3-9 CACC) on Wednesday.
GAME ONE – W, 14-4
The Rams built a 5-0 lead with three runs in the first and two in the second.
Chris McLean smacked an RBI double and later scored on an error.
Diego Santiago drove in a run with a base hit while
Jay Kalieta and
Joe Cencetti each knocked in a run with a triple and single respectively.
The Purple Knights got on the board in the fourth with a two-run homer. Kalieta added a long ball of his own, bashing a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-2. Jefferson broke it open with eight runs in the fifth. McLean led off with a home run for the first of seven hits in the frame. The Rams sent 12 hitters to the plate during the barrage. Bridgeport's final two runs came in the seventh.

Bridgeport opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first. Jefferson was held to two hits and left three runners on base through the first four innings before the Rams broke through in the fifth. Jefferson rallied with two outs as
Jay Kalieta crushed a two-run, go-ahead homer to left and
Chris McLean hit a two-run single in the same direction as the Rams took a 4-1 lead.
The Rams' pitching staff finished off the victory as the trio of
Samuel Bass,
Ben Pika, and
Anthony Pillari combined to allow just three hits and five baserunners during the contest.
