PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team (5-7, 4-2 CACC) outscored visiting Dominican (11-2, 6-1 CACC), 10-5, in the second half to deal the Chargers their first conference defeat of the season by a 19-14 score on Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dominican netted the first goal of the day but the Rams answered with five of the next six to take a 5-2 lead with 6:50 to go in the opening quarter. The Chargers came back with three in a row to even the score before
Carina Raymond scored with 24 seconds left to give Jefferson a 6-5 edge entering the second.
Dominican started the second period with three straight goals to go ahead 8-6. The score was 9-7 before
Madison Caffrey and
Audrey Strock tallied back-to-back goals to tie it at nine with 2:26 remaining. The teams remained deadlocked at halftime.
The two sides traded goals to begin the third quarter. With the score even at 11, the Rams netted three in a row to take a 14-11 advantage with 2:32 on the clock. The Chargers cut the deficit to two (14-12) heading into the fourth but Jefferson outscored Dominican, 5-2, in the last frame to pull away for the win.
