PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (10-10) fell to 25
th-ranked West Chester (13-6), 11-10, in a non-conference game on Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Rams took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the opening inning but the Rams answered with three runs in the first and another three in the second to take a 6-1 advantage.
Jay Kalieta and
Chris McLean highlighted the early barrage with an RBI triple and a two-run homer respectively.
West Chester chipped away at the deficit with a run in both the third and fourth frames before exploding for six runs in the fifth to take a 9-6 lead. The Golden Rams bashed three home runs during the stretch. However, Jefferson responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to even the score.
Joe Cencetti singled in a run and
Marquise Wood drove in a pair with a double.
WCU regained the upper hand with a sac fly in the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh for an 11-9 edge. In the ninth, Wood got the Rams within one with a two-out RBI base hit but a strikeout ended the game.
