MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (5-5) posted a 4-2 record during its stay at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in the Myrtle Beach area from March 11-14. The Rams were scheduled to play eight contests but two were canceled due to inclement weather.
W, 12-2 (6 inn.) vs. Iowa Wesleyan
Jefferson trailed 2-1 before going off for 11 runs in the top of the sixth. The Rams sent 16 hitters to the plate during the frame, banged out 10 hits, and capitalized on a pair of errors.
W, 4-3 vs. Rio Grande
Jefferson was behind 3-0 before rallying for four runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Rams' first four batters reached and all of them scored as
Emily Akelaitis capped the comeback win with a two-out, walk-off single.
L, 4-0 vs. Mansfield
The Mountaineers scored two runs in both the first and second innings while limiting Jefferson to just two hits.
W, 10-0 (5 inn.) vs. UMaine-Farmington
The Rams jumped on the Beavers for six runs in the opening frame thanks to seven hits and one error. Jefferson cruised the rest of the way behind
Gianna DeLorenzo, who limited the opponent to just two hits for the second time on the trip.
L, 4-0 vs. Concordia (Texas)
The Rams mustered just three hits in suffering their second defeat of the trek.
W, 9-2 vs. Suffolk
Jefferson closed out its stay with a victory, using a six-run third inning to break a 2-2 tie and take over for good.
Sam Gomez highlighted the frame with a three-run homer.
