CALDWELL, N.J. – The Thomas Jefferson University men's soccer team (4-4-1, 3-0-1 CACC) scored the equalizer in the 69
th minute while down a man and salvaged a 2-2 draw at Caldwell (2-5-2, 1-1-2 CACC) in a conference match on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams had a prime opportunity to open the scoring in just the second minute with a penalty kick but the Cougars' goalkeeper made the stop. After another Caldwell save, the Cougars countered and netted the first goal in the fourth minute.
Jefferson controlled play for the next several minutes, earning a pair of corner kicks and drawing four fouls. The Rams broke through and evened the score in the 21
st minute. Caldwell sent a goal kick down the field but
Noah Stover headed the ball back the other way.
Gabe Paz got ahead of the defense and beat the goalie to make it 1-1.
The Cougars had the better of play in the final 20 minutes of the half, getting off two shots and a corner kick but the game remained level at the intermission. Caldwell took the lead in the 56
th minute then a red card against Jefferson put the Rams down a man the rest of the way.
Jefferson battled through the tough situation and managed to score the tying goal in the 69
th minute.
Matty Harmon booted a free kick into the box where
Luke Wojciechowski got a head on it and found the back of the net. Both teams had chances for the go-ahead goal down the stretch, none better than a header by
Diego Guzman in front of the goal that fell just outside the right post in the closing seconds, but the contest ended in a 2-2 draw.
