DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Thomas Jefferson University men's soccer team (2-4) dropped a non-conference game at 24
th-ranked Mercy (5-1-1) on Wednesday by a 2-0 score.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks recorded the first three shots of the contest before the Rams started to earn some opportunities. Jefferson tallied two shots and a corner kick in a two-minute span but the game remained scoreless. Mercy broke the ice in the 19
th minute and took a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks carried the momentum into the resumption of play and netted another goal just 1:16 later to go ahead by two.
The Rams had another strong stretch from the 30
th to 35
th minutes, posting three shots and a corner kick but they remained off the board. In the second half, Jefferson had a prime opportunity in the 50
th minute but the shot was kicked out by a defender before crossing the goal line. The Rams also rang a shot off of the crossbar in the 53
rd minute. The Mercy goalkeeper also stopped four Jefferson chances to hold on to the shutout.
