DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team (9-4) had its nine-game win streak come to an end with a 13-10 setback at 13
th-ranked Mercy on Saturday afternoon.
GAMEPLAY
The Mavericks struck first at 12:32 of the opening quarter but the Rams came back with three goals in a row for a 3-1 lead. The two squads traded tallies and Jefferson had a 4-2 advantage after one. The score was 5-3 in favor of the Rams with under 10 minutes to play in the second before Mercy went on a 4-0 run to go in front 7-5.
Kanha Stockford netted her third of the day with 21 seconds on the clock to get Jefferson within one (7-6) at halftime.
In the third, the Mavericks recorded three of the first four goals to increase their cushion to three (10-7) with 7:10 to go. The Rams responded with three consecutive to even the score at 10 entering the fourth.
Audrey Strock found the back of the net twice and
Madison Caffrey netted the equalizer with 18 seconds left in the period.
Mercy came out on top in the final quarter, outscoring Jefferson 3-0 in the frame. The Rams got off five shots, four on goal, but could not solve the Mavericks' goalkeeper. Mercy scored on three of its four shots in the stanza.
