PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team opened the 2022 season on Sunday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to West Chester, 10-6 and 7-2.
 
GAME 1 – L, 10-6
The Golden Rams opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning. The Rams got one back in the second on a lead-off home run by Ellie Egher. Jefferson then took the lead with a three-run third. Dallas Urban scored on a groundout and Sam Gomez blasted a two-run shot to right center.
 
The Rams upped their advantage to four (6-2) with a pair of runs in the fourth. Annie Eliason scored on a fielder's choice and Cayla Kalani stole home. However, West Chester stunned Jefferson with a five-run fifth via a RBI single, an error, a sacrifice fly, and back-to-back solo homers.
 
The Rams put one baserunner on in each of their last three at-bats but could not push another run across. The Golden Rams added three insurance runs in the seventh on two RBI singles and a run-scoring double.

GAME 2 – L, 7-2
Both teams scored a run in the second inning, West Chester on a sac fly and Jefferson on a RBI base hit by Emily Kuberski. A bases-loaded walk in the third gave the Golden Rams a 2-1 advantage. West Chester made it 3-1 with a RBI single in the fourth.
 
In the fifth, Ellie Egher singled to center and scored Ali Murphy to get the Rams within one (3-2). Jefferson had the tying run in scoring position in the sixth but could not get it across. The Golden Rams then broke it open with four runs in the seventh on a two-run triple, an error, and a RBI groundout.
