Lopez Bashes Three Homers To Lead Baseball's Offensive Attack At Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (11-11) exploded for a season-high 19 runs in a 19-11 win at Kutztown on Tuesday.

GAMEPLAY
Josh Lopez got the Rams going with a lead-off homer in the second. The Golden Bears benefitted from a pair of Jefferson errors in the third to take a 3-1 lead. However, the Rams took the lead for good with a three-run fourth. Lopez blasted his second homer of the game, a game-tying two-run shot, and Zack Austin came home on an error to put Jefferson in front.

The Rams opened up their advantage with a six-run fifth. Lopez remained hot at the plate, hitting his third home run of the game in the frame. After Kutztown got a run back in the sixth, Justin Espinal joined the home run barrage for Jefferson with a solo jack in the seventh. The Golden Bears cut the deficit to four (11-7) with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

In the eighth, Austin smacked a two-run bomb, the fifth homer of the contest for Jefferson, to give the Rams a 13-7 lead. Kutztown made it 13-8 in its half of the eighth but the Rams pulled away with another six-run inning in the ninth. The Golden Bears were able to put three more runs on the board before Jefferson closed out the win.
