WILMINGTON, Del. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (8-8, 0-1 CACC) fell behind early and could not recover in a 10-5 loss at Wilmington (Del.) to begin CACC play on Tuesday.
GAMEPLAY
The Wildcats tallied one run in each of the first four innings via an RBI single, a sacrifice fly, a solo homer, and another run-scoring base hit. Wilmington added two more on a single in the fifth to make it 6-0. A lead-off home run in the sixth followed by a sac fly and a bases-loaded hit by pitch upped the margin to nine.
After having 18 of 23 hitters retired over the first six frames, the Rams finally broke through in the seventh.
Matt Vita doubled to bring in
Ryan Sawyer and later scored on a base hit by
Dylan Rees to make the score 9-2. Jefferson cut the deficit to four (9-5) with a three-run eighth.
Zack Austin launched a two-run homer to left field and
Chris McLean drove in Sawyer with a double.
Wilmington tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single and the Rams could not get anything going in the ninth.
