Figueroa's Walk-Off Heroics Salvage Doubleheader Split With Le Moyne

PHILADELPHIA – Arturo Figueroa hit a two-out, two-run walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (6-5) a 7-6 victory in game two of a doubleheader against Le Moyne on Monday. The Dolphins took the opener, 17-13.
 
GAME ONE – L, 17-13
Le Moyne opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single. The Rams answered with a pair in the bottom half on an error and a bases-loaded hit by pitch. The Dolphins regained the lead with a two-run third but Jefferson came back with four in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-3 advantage. Josh Lopez scored on a groundout by Figueroa and Chris McLean blasted a three-run homer.
 
Efrain Santiago upped the Rams' cushion to five (8-3) with a two-run shot in the fourth. However, Le Moyne exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth, seven of them coming with two outs, and went on top 11-8 thanks to seven hits. The Dolphins padded their lead with four more runs in the sixth to make it 15-8.
 
Zack Austin got Jefferson back on the board with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. Le Moyne tacked on two more with a single in the seventh, increasing the margin to six (17-11). McLean launched his second bomb of the day in the bottom of the frame and Alex Gonzalez completed the back-to-back jacks to get the Rams within four (17-13) before the Dolphins were able to record the final out.

GAME TWO – W, 7-6
Jefferson got on the board in the opening frame on an RBI base hit by Ryan Sawyer. Jem Sisco retired the first nine batters he faced but ran into trouble in the fourth as Le Moyne scored two to take the lead. The Dolphins made it 4-1 in the fifth on a two-run error.
 
The Rams responded with three in the bottom of the fifth to even the score. Efrain Santiago doubled in a run, Zack Austin plated Santiago with a single, and Sawyer doubled in Austin. Le Moyne went in front by two in the top of the seventh via an error and a sacrifice fly.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, the first two Jefferson hitters were retired and the Rams were down to their final out, trailing by two. Santiago started a rally with a solo homer to left field. Then, Austin walked and stole second, Sawyer drew a walk, and Cole Kriger was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Arturo Figueroa came off the bench and lifted a single to left field that scored Austin and Sawyer to win the game for Jefferson and salvage the split.
