LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Thomas Jefferson University men's basketball team (6-6, 2-1 CACC) suffered a 75-65 setback at Georgian Court (7-4, 3-0 CACC) on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The score was even at five early in the first half before the Lions scored 10 in a row and 13 of the next 14 to go ahead 18-6 with 14:44 on the clock. The Rams closed the gap to 10 (18-8) but GCU followed with an 8-0 run to make it an 18-point difference (26-8) with 12:02 remaining. The Lions pushed the margin to 21 (33-12) before Jefferson began to rally, netting 14 of the next 16 to cut the deficit to nine (35-26) with 3:43 left.
Justin Hawkins led the way with eight points. It was an 11-point spread (42-31) at halftime.
Erik Timko opened the second half with a three-pointer to get the Rams within eight (42-34). However, GCU responded with a 15-3 surge to restore a 20-point advantage (57-37) with 13:13 on the clock. Jefferson did not quit, however, answering with a 15-1 stretch to close the gap to six (58-52). The difference was still six (68-62) with 2:46 to go but the Rams missed their next six shots and the Lions went 5-for-7 at the foul line down the stretch to close out the win.
