Volleyball Picks Up Two More Wins To Start Wildcat Regional Invitational

NEW CASTLE, Del. - The Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (7-0) stayed hot with a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Le Moyne and Saint Rose on the opening day of the Wildcat Regional Invitational hosted by Wilmington (Del.) on Friday.

After conceding the first point, the Rams responded with seven of the next eight for a 7-2 advantage. The Dolphins cut the deficit to three (7-4) before Jefferson upped the margin to as many as eight. Le Moyne climbed back into it late in the set. With the Rams holding set point at 24-20, the Dolphins rallied for five straight to bring up their own set point with a 25-24 lead. However, Jefferson recovered to post four of the next five and claim the opening frame 28-26.
 
The Rams kept the momentum going in the second, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. Le Moyne closed the gap to two (13-11) but Jefferson surged forward with a 7-1 run to make it 20-12. The Rams led by at least four the rest of the way to a 25-20 win. In the third, Jefferson trailed 2-1 then rattled off seven in a row for an 8-2 advantage. The Dolphins fought back and came within one (15-14) but the Rams shut the door with a 7-1 surge on the way to a 25-18 decision to clinch the match.
 
JEFFERSON 3, SAINT ROSE 0
Saint Rose recorded the first point before the Rams strung together four to go in front. The Golden Knights evened the score at nine and the teams traded points in the middle of the set. Saint Rose was ahead 13-12 then Jefferson rallied for nine of the next 10 to take a commanding 21-14 lead. The Golden Knights cut it to 21-17 before the Rams rattled off four straight to take the opening frame 25-17.
 
In the second, Jefferson had a two-point cushion at 9-7 before Saint Rose put up six consecutive points for a 13-9 lead. The Rams came back to tie the score at 16. Trailing 17-16, Jefferson went on a 5-0 run to take over at 21-17 and went on to win the stanza 25-21. The Rams dominated the third frame, storming out to an 11-2 advantage. The Golden Knights could only get within six and Jefferson finished the match with six straight points, taking the final set 25-13.
