PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team suffered a 14-4 loss at the hands of 16
th-ranked Mercy in non-conference action on Friday afternoon. The Rams are 3-1 on the season.
GAMEPLAY
Ellie Lefton recorded the first goal on a free position attempt for Jefferson just 1:15 into the contest. The Mavericks found the back of the net 39 seconds later and it started a run of 10 straight Mercy goals, stretching into the second half.
Erin Avanzato broke the streak with 18:16 left to play, scoring on a free position try. After four more tallies by the Mavericks, Avanzato netted her second at the 4:10 mark and
Erin Eckert scored a free-position goal just before the final buzzer.
Mercy finished with a 25-13 advantage in shots and the Mavericks were a perfect 24-for-24 on clear attempts. The Rams had 16 clears in 21 tries, including 9-of-9 in the first half. Jefferson controlled the draws by a 12-7 margin.
Kelsey Kaplowitz stopped five shots for the Rams and
Melanie Goldstein had one save.
