PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team suffered a tough 7-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to Goldey-Beacom Wednesday afternoon on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.
Philadelphia is now 6-3 overall, while Goldey-Beacom improves to 4-3. Both teams are even at 3-3 in conference play.
The loss gives the Lightning the tiebreaker over the Rams for the final spot in the CACC Tournament and puts Philadelphia in a must-win situation against Concordia on Monday, Oct. 19. A Goldey-Beacom loss to Caldwell on Oct. 16 and a Philadelphia win on Monday gives the Rams the final playoff spot.
Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) improved to 5-1 in singles play with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Pauline Rozet at No. 4. Chung is 4-0 at No. 4 in the lineup.
Julia Arruda (Valinhos, Brazil/Anglo Coc Valinhos) recorded her first CACC win over the year as she defeated Francesca Beg at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1.
Philadelphia's next match is a non-conference clash against Molloy on Friday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.
