Box Score 2 ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of tough five-set matches to Assumption and host Molloy in Quealy Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
In the opening match, Philadelphia (3-6) lost to Assumption by set scores of 26-28, 26-24, 25-27, 25-23, 15-13.
Middle hitter Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) recorded a career-high 20 kills, while hitting .372 (20-4-43). Middle hitter Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) notched 16 kills.
Setter Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) posted a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs, while outside hitter Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) narrowly missed a double-double of her own as she had nine kills and 18 digs. Libero Michele Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) had 21 digs.
Stephanie Hawley, Kiki Romanik, and Bizzie Gonring all had double-doubles for the Greyhounds. Hawley had a team-high 19 kills and 12 digs. Romanik recorded a match-high 61 assists to go along with 11 digs. Gonring chipped in with 13 kills and 10 digs.
In the second match, the host Lions upended the Rams 16-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13.
Manley picked up second double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs. Hughes paced the Philadelphia offense with a team-high 14 kills and three solo blocks. Morvin recorded her second double-double of the day with 25 assists and 16 digs.
Ecker notched double-digit kills for the second straight match with 10 against Molloy. Chai was once again the defensive leader with 23 digs.
Sam Berna had 16 kills and 12 digs to pace the Lions. Tia McCord added 14 kills.
Ally De Kruyf dished out 50 assists, while Samira Escobar had 29 digs.
Philadelphia visits Chestnut Hill for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
