Women's tennis goes to 6-0 with 8-1 win at USciences

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team picked up its sixth consecutive win to open the 2014 season with an 8-1 triumph over host USciences in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Sunday afternoon on the McNeil Field Courts.

The Rams (6-0, 3-0 CACC) took a 2-0 lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

The No. 3 tandem of Jala Hamada (Giza, Egypt/Dar El-Tarbia, IGCSE) and Anna Slomowitz (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) defeated Andria Dang and Alexus Rivas 8-0. Anna Kudriavtceva (Yekaterinburg, Russia/Grammar School No. 13) and Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) won the No. 2 match against Melissa White and Anna Vo 8-2.

USciences (3-1, 1-1 CACC) won at No. 1 doubles.

Julia Arruda (Valinhos, Brazil/Anglo Coc Valinhos) picked up her sixth win playing at No. 1 singles as she knocked off Victoria Quang 6-0, 7-5.

Kudriavtceva won a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Teresa Alvarez-Moren in the No. 2 singles match 6-4, 6-1. In the No. 3 flight, Chung defeated Vo 6-2, 6-0. Slomowitz took the battle of No. 5s by a 6-1, 6-0 score against Dang. Kudriavtceva, Chung, and Slomowitz are all 5-0 in singles play.

Hamada breezed by White 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to improve to 5-1.  Sylvia Bennicelli (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) capped off the match with a 8-0 win over Sara Skoritowski.

Philadelphia returns home on Thursday, Sept. 18 to face defending CACC champion Concordia (N.Y.) at 3:30 p.m.
