Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – Midfielder Seiji Rose (Toulouse, France/Lycee Climatique et Sportif Pierre de Coubertin) scored with 7:27 left in regulation to give the Philadelphia University men's soccer team a 3-2 over West Chester in a non-conference match Monday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

Philadelphia runs its unbeaten streak six, including five straight wins, as it improves to 7-3-1 overall. West Chester dips to 5-5-0.

With the match tied at two, midfielder Victor Chagonda (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) cut into the box from the left wing. Chagonda, who had a goal and two assists, played the ball to Rose at the edge of the 18. Rose struck the ball across the goal mouth and into the net off of the right post for his second goal of the year.

Chagonda put the Rams ahead 1-0 early in the first half by taking advantage of a Golden Ram miscue. On a free kick just over midfield in the 16th minute, Rose played a long ball into the box. West Chester's Matt Palmer punched the ball directly to Chagonda who deposited into the net.

Fifty-four seconds into the second half, Chagonda was awarded a penalty kick after being pulled down by West Chester's Tim French. Chagonda went to the lower right corner with his attempt but was denied by a diving Phil Horan.

The save turned the game's momentum toward West Chester and the Golden Rams took advantage by scoring twice in a 16:24 span to take a 2-1 lead.

Wyatt Dungan recorded West Chester's first goal with a header from the corner of the penalty area in the 55th minute. Alex Lean put the visitors in front with a sharp-angle shot near the end line with 18:48 to play.

Philadelphia responded with the tying goal at the 78:22 mark. Midfielder Armando Canela (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) received a crossing pass from Chagonda and deposited the ball into a wide-open net for his first goal of the year.

Philadelphia keeper Thomas Attamante (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) made two saves to pick up his sixth win of the year (6-1-1).

Horan finished with two saves in the second half for West Chester. Palmer had three saves in the first 45 minutes.

Philadelphia welcomes Post to Ravenhill Field for a Homecoming Day match on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2:30 p.m.
