Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Corrine Justus (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) recorded a career-high 14 kills and Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) added 13 kills to lead the Philadelphia University women's volleyball team in 3-0 win at Felician in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Saturday afternoon in Job Gym.
Philadelphia (12-12, 9-5 CACC) completed the road sweep using set scores of 25-14, 28-16, and 25-22.
Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) had 23 assists, while Claudia Papola (Temple, Pa./Muhlenburg) added 19. Libero Michele Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) contributed 13 digs.
Philadelphia had an impressive hitting percentage of .424 (16-2-33) to cruise for the set one win. The Rams started the match scoring 10 of the first 12 points of the match. Chai had two service aces and Hughes added two kills in the run. After Felician closed the gap to 14-8, Philadelphia came back with a 9-4 run to move ahed 23-12 on an Erin Lyman (Algonquin, Ill./Huntley) kill. Hughes and Justus led the Rams with four kills each.
The Rams were in control of the second set until back-to-back attack errors gave the Golden Falcons their first lead of the match at 22-21. Consecutive Hughes kills allowed Philadelphia to go back in front 24-23. After trading the next five points, Justus closed out the set with two straight kills, her fifth and sixth in the second set.
In the final set, Philadelphia had to overcome a 20-16 deficit. A Lauren Elliott (Austin, Texas/Middlesex) kill sparked a 6-0 run that put the Rams in the driver's seat at 22-20. Hughes' 13th kill of the match ended the third set. Lyman recorded three of her six service aces in the third.
Tonia Ford led Felician (5-15, 3-12 CACC) with 10 kills and nine digs. Susie McKeever added 25 assists.
Philadelphia hosts Holy Family in a CACC match on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
