Women's volleyball falls in five to East Stroudsburg, 3-2

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team was edged out by host East Stroudsburg, 3-2, in a non-conference match Wednesday night in Koehler Fieldhouse.

Philadelphia (2-3) got the match off to a strong start by taking set one 25-18. East Stroudsburg (5-3) came back to tie the match at one with a 25-21 set two win. After the Rams regain the lead with a 25-19 set three victory, the Warriors took the final two sets 25-15 and 15-13.

Sophomore middle hitter Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) led the Ram offense with a career-high 13 kills. Sophomore setter Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) recorded a career-best seven kills.

Senior setter Heather Martin (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) posted a double-double consisting of 15 assists and 18 digs. Sophomore setter Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla./Springstead) led the team with 18 assists.

Senior libero Morgan McCarthy (Beaver, Pa./South Side) had a match-best 32 digs.

Annabelle Charlton recorded a triple-double with a match-high 17 kills, 18 assists, and 18 digs. Sydney Galoozis had 16 kills, while Abby Welch had 10 kills. Maddie Hutchinson contributed 27 digs.

Philadelphia will have a doubleheader against Felician at West Chester on Saturday, Sept. 21 in the Gallagher Center starting at noon.
