Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore forward Ishmaiah Calwrie's (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown) first goal of the 2013 season helped the Philadelphia University men's soccer team defeat Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Holy Family, 1-0, on Ravenhill Field Wednesday afternoon.
Philadelphia improves to 6-3-0 overall and 4-1-0 against the CACC, while Holy Family drops to 3-5-1 overall and 3-3-0 in conference play. The Rams defeated the Tigers for the first time at home since Sept. 17, 2009.
Calwrie's goal came 8:42 into the contest. After receiving a centering pass from junior forward Victor Chagonda (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's), Calwrie took a shot from 14 yards away that bent across the goal mouth and ricocheted off the right post and into net.
Chagonda had a chance to add to the Ram advantage after being pulled down inside the penalty area at the 69:40 mark. He aimed for the lower left corner, but was stopped by Tiger keeper Richard Ongaro—who finished with five saves.
Junior goalkeeper Thomas Attamante (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) played well and kept the Tigers off of the board by making four saves, tying a season-high. The clean sheet is Attamante's fifth of the 2013 season.
The Rams outshot the Tigers 13-10 and owned a 7-5 corner kick advantage.
Philadelphia looks for its first three-match winning streak of the season when it hosts Nyack in a Homecoming Day CACC battle on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2:30 p.m.
