Women's Tennis Wins CACC Opener

Philadelphia PA- The Philadelphia University women's tennis team (2-1, 1-0 CACC) defeated University of the Sciences (1-2, 1-2 CACC), 6-3, Tuesday at USP.

The Lady Rams won their second-consecutive match and captured their opening Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest with Tuesday's win.

PhilaU #1 freshman Isabella Espinosa (Quito, Ecuador/ The American School of Quito) def. USP's Sara Durham 6-2, 6-1, for her third consecutive victory. Senior Daniela Rodriguez, PhilaU's # 2, (Quito, Ecuador/ Colegio Menor) def. Bridget Frymoyer 6-4, 6-2, #3 junior Brittany Villa (Logan Township, NJ/ Kingsway H.S.) def. Zahra Hansan 6-2, 6-3 and #4 freshman Liz Verbits (Salisbury, MD/James M. Bennett) def. Laney Jones, 7-5, 6-2.

In doubles play, the #1 team of Espinosa/Villa def.  USP's Durham/Hansan 8-3 and the # 2 duo of Rodriquez/Verbits def. Jones/Choi, 8-2.   

PhilaU returns to action on Thursday (9/16) when they host Gwynedd/Mercy at 4:00 p.m.
