Box Score Philadelphia, PA- It isn't everyday a coach
reaches 900 NCAA wins, but it wasn't your average day at the
office as Philadelphia University Men's Basketball (20-6, 12-1
CACC) Head Coach Herb Magee joined the greats-his
Rams winning 81-77 over the #7 East region ranked Bloomfield
College (16-5, 10-2 CACC) at the Gallagher Athletic Center on Herb
Magee Court to reach 900 career wins, in 43 years at PhilaU.
His career coaching record is 900-352 and he is on track to break
the legendary Bobby Knight's NCAA all-time wins record of 902 wins
this season.
To Magee, the game was just another tough competition in the
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), but the maroon and
gray fans knew differently, packing the Gallagher Athletic Center
to root their beloved Rams on to victory.
PhilaU senior forward Malcolm Ingram
(Philadelphia, PA/Solebury Prep) led the Rams with 22 points, nine
boards and five assists. BC's Gage Daye led all scorers with
29 points and eight rebounds.
BC jumped out to a 12-5 lead early in the first half, but
PhilaU's Ingram and senior guard Russell Frederick
(Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) each added eight points in that
stanza to tie it 39-39 at the break. Frederick had 16 points
and six assists on the night.
Poor PhilaU free-throw shooting (68%) plagued the Rams
throughout the night, but 50% field goal shooting kept the squad on
top.
The Rams led by nine (68-77) with just 38 seconds remaining in
the second half, but two treys from BC in the final nine seconds
made it a heart-stopper. PhilaU held on for the 81-77 win.
The maroon and gray return to competition on Tuesday (2/16) at
the University of the Sciences for an 8 p.m. CACC contest.
