#2 PhilaU Advances to CACC Semis with 1-0 Shutout

Philadelphia, PA- The #2 seeded Philadelphia University (12-5-2, 8-2-1 CACC) men's soccer team knocked out #7 Chestnut Hill College (9-10, 5-7 CACC) in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference quarterfinals with a 1-0 win at Ravenhill Field on Tuesday afternoon.  The win was the first postseason victory for the Rams since they joined CACC and NCAA Division II, which they did in 2008.

PhilaU junior midfielder Ryan Purnell got the game-winner, a rocket that shot into the middle of the net at 66:16 in the second half.  Earlier this week Purnell was named to the CACC All-Conference first team, along with senior defneder Wojciech Sliwinski

PhilaU freshman goalie Alex Heston, a recent CACC All-Conference 'Honorable Mention' selection, had six stops in goal while CHC's Michael Goldstein made seven for the Griffins.

The Rams now advance to the CACC Semifinals, where they will play #3 Dominican College on Thursday (11/4) at 1:30 p.m. at Georgian Court University.  Click here for details. Dominican was a 3-1 winner over Nyack College in penalty kicks that followed two scoreless overtime periods.
