Purnell Leads PhilaU to 4-2 Victory over Chestnut Hill

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (11-5-1, 8-2-1 CACC) secured a home playoff spot with a 4-2 win over the visiting Chestnut Hill College Griffins (9-8, 5-6 CACC) on Thursday afternoon at Ravenhill Field.  PhilaU junior midfielder Ryan Purnell led the team with two goals and two assists. 

In the first half, PhilaU got an early lift from Purnell, who scored off a rebounded save at 17:27.

The Rams carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

CHC's Ross Garabedian tied it up for CHC in the 62nd minute on a successful corner kick play, assisted by Carl Essenthier. 

PhilaU junior forward Milos Racic scored five minutes later, assisted by Purnell to give the Rams another lead at 2-1, but CHC's Essenthier evened it at 2's on a shot from 30 yards out. 

The game-winner came on a Purnell shot in the 83rd minute and PhilaU sophomore midfielder Sean Crossland added the fourth goal to make it 4-2 in the final minutes.

PhilaU freshman keeper Alex Heston made five saves in the winning effort, while CHC's Michael Goldstein had 10 saves for the Griffins. 

Next up for the Rams is a Friday (10/29) non-confernce match vs. Mercy at 3:00 p.m. to end the regular season, and then a CACC Quarterfinal match on Tuesday (11/2) vs. Chestnut Hill College at 2:00 p.m. at Ravenhill Field.
