Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University
men's soccer team (6-1, 4-0 CACC) picked up another conference
victory in a 4-1 win over the Goldey-Beacom University Lightning
(3-4, 1-2 CACC) on Tuesday. PhilaU sophomore
forward/midfielder Ian Martin (Beachwood, NJ/ Toms
River South) picked up the first hat trick of his career in the
win.
In the first half, GBC's Angel Rodriguez didn't waste any time
with a quick goal at 2:56. PhilaU's Martin made it 1-1 at 11:10
with his second goal of the season, assisted by senior midfielder
Emmanuel Asangmbeng (Riverdale, MD/ Bladensburg).
A GBC red card with six minutes remaining in the first half had
the Lightning playing a man down for the remainder of the
contest.
Martin scored two more goals on assists from sophomore
midfielder Ryan Purnell (Hamilton, Bermuda) in the
25th and 18th minute of the second half to
put the Ram's up 3-1.
Purnell went on to score at the 8:00 mark, assisted by Martin to
make the final 4-1.
Senior goalie Buddy Custer (Cinnaminson, NJ/
Cinnaminson) had six saves while GBC's Andrew Cairns made 14
stops.
The Rams next play at Post University on Saturday (9/26) at 3:00
p.m.
