Balanced Effort Leads PhilaU in 67-63 CACC Quarterfinal Win

Philadelphia, PA- Junior guard Russell Frederick (Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) had a game-high 20 points to lead the #1S Philau Rams (23-5, 14-2 CACC) to a 67-63 victory over #4S Chestnut Hill (6-22, 5-11 CACC) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) quarterfinal match-up.  The win was PhilaU's third over CHC this season.   

The Rams will now advance to a semifinal game vs. #3N Felician College on Friday, March 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Gallagher Athletic Center.  Felician was a 79-69 winner over Post on Tuesday night. 

In the victory, the Rams shot 53%-CHC's 43% from the floor, while out-rebounding the Griffins 33-26.

PhilaU led from the get-go, leading by as many as 10 points in the first half on a trey by senior guard Mike Dunn (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin).  Dunn had 11 points and four boards in the game.

The Griffins got within three (30-27) with a minute remaining in the first stanza, but PhilaU junior forward Mike Yocum (Dresher, PA/ Episcopal Academy) hit a jumper with six seconds remaining to make it 32-27 at the half.  Yocum finished the night with 12 points and 11 rebounds, along with three blocks.

PhilaU continued to hold the advantage in the second half, as junior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep) dropped in a basket at 7:01 to give the Rams a 55-44 lead.  Ingram had 18 points and six boards on the night.

CHC threatened down the stretch as Ryan Cook had a three to get within five (60-55) and drove through traffic with just 15 seconds left to make it a two-point game, but PhilaU's Frederick made two free-throws to seal the 67-63 win.  Cook had 20 points to lead CHC in the loss.
