Box Score Sophomore forward Malcolm Ingram led all
scorers with 17 points, adding eight rebounds, in helping
Philadelphia University to a 65-45 win over visiting Nyack College on Saturday
afternoon in men's basketball action. The triumph improves
the Rams to 4-6 overall on the season including a perfect 3-0 mark
in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) while the
Warriors fall to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.
Nyack led the contest 27-24 after a tight, defense-driven
first half, scoring nine points off of eight turnovers by the Rams
in the opening stanza. In the second period, senior forward
Jason Hickenbottom drained a three-point field
goal at the 16:33 mark to give Philadelphia University a 32-31 lead
which they never relinquished. The margin increased to double
digits for good when sophomore point guard Russell
Frederick canned a jumper at the 9:47 mark to put the Rams
up by 11. From there, Head Coach Herb
Magee's team demonstrated intense defensive prowess,
allowing only eight Warrior points in the final 10 minutes of the
game. The Rams also protected the ball expertly in the second
frame, ending the contest with 10 turnovers after the
aforementioned eight in the opening half of play.
In addition to Ingram, three other Rams scored in double
figures. Hickenbottom and junior Mike Dunn
added 14 points apiece, and Frederick finished with 12 points,
seven assists and four steals in the victory. Guard
Sheanan Martinez paced Nyack with 11 points
in the losing effort.
