Women's Tennis Snaps Wilmington 18-Game Conference Win Streak

PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University women's tennis (5-0, 5-0) took their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) showdown to Wilmington University (3-1, 3-1) down to the final singles match, with Marta Vázquez taking the set and giving the Rams a 4-3 victory over the four-time defending CACC Champion Wildcats 4-3, snapping their 18-game conference win streak. 

WHAT HAPPENED

• After a rain delay forced the match indoors, Jefferson got down early as Wilmington took all three doubles matches to earn the first point on the day 

• CACC Player and Rookie of the Week Anouk Oderkerk alongside Rose Huang won their singles matches to give the Rams a 2-1 lead on the day. Ming-Fu Chen got the second position win for the Wildcats while Alycia Veroux earned the second spot point to keep the Rams up 3-2 

• Gloria Barcaro even the series out in her win at the sixth position, making the game tied at 3-3 

• Vázquez fought two tiebreaking sets in the fourth position to give Jefferson the point and the victory over Wilmington 

• The Rams handed the Wildcats their first loss in over 18 games, with Wilmington's last defeat being on October 3, 2023. That loss came by the hands of Jefferson as well
