Softball Ends Season on Second Day of CACC Tournament


BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Thomas Jefferson University softball (16-26) made it to the second day of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament. The Rams had the lead for the most part in the first game of the day but fell 3-2 to Wilmington University of Delaware (31-16) and dropped the elimination game to Goldey-Beacom College (37-13) to conclude their season. 

WHAT HAPPENED 
GAME ONE: L, 3-2 VS WILMINGTON (DEL.) 

  • Jefferson got out to an early lead in the second inning as Annie Eliason knocked a single to right field for a run to get the Rams up 1-0 over the defending CACC Champions 

  • Eliason earned another RBI as the Wildcats walked her with the bases loaded to have Jefferson up 2-0 with three innings down 

  • Wilmington got a run in the fifth on a one-run single to the right field, cutting the lead to 2-1. The Wildcats then went ahead on a two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth as the Rams trailed 3-2 heading to the final inning 

  • Jefferson looked to tie it up, but three batters down ended the first game on the day with a 3-2 defeat 

  • Eliason earned two RBI's while Delaney Alix pitched all six innings, giving up six hits and three runs with two strikeouts

GAME TWO: L, 4-0 VS GOLDEY-BEACOM 

  • The second game started off with Jefferson down in the second as the Lightning got three runs in the second inning. 

  • The Rams had four runners left on base through the next five innings but unable to get them to homeplate 

  • Goldey-Beacom put another run on the board with a sacrifice fly, ending their scoring with a 4-0 win as Jefferson ended their season in the second day of the CACC Championship, finishing third in the conference after being projected ninth in the preseason poll 

  • Devin Brandley pitched all six innings, allowing seven hits and four runs, with only one earned, with two strikeouts
