Softball Takes Down Caldwell; Advances in CACC Tournament

PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University softball (15-24) scored three runs in the first inning and held on throughout the final four as the Rams defeated Caldwell University (24-24) in the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament and will head to the Elimination Portion of the Tournament on Thursday. 

WHAT HAPPENED 

• Jefferson got two runs to start the game off from a single by Lily Hutt to third that turned to an error on the throw. Sabrina Pastino sacrifice flyout allowed Bridget Shields to run to homebase and have it at 3-0 for the Rams 

• Caldwell was held without a run until the third with a single to right field as the Cougars cut Jefferson's lead to 3-1 

• Both pitchers and defenses held strong throughout the next four innings, with each team seeing only four batters at most when at-bat. Delaney Alix secured five of her seven strikeouts in those innings 

• The Rams never allowed a Cougar to get as close as first base, ending the game with two strikeouts and a flyout to end their day winning their first playoff game since 2019 

• Alix allowed only six hits and one run, which wasn't earned, with seven strikeouts

Jefferson now heads to the Elimination Portion of the CACC Championships. They will travel to the University of Bridgeport for the host site as the Rams take on No.1 seed and host team Purple Knights on Thursday, May 1 at 11 a.m.
