Softball Opens CACC Action with Split Against Felician

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Thomas Jefferson University softball (2-14) began Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action as they went on the road to take on Felician University (4-16) on Saturday. The Rams dropped game one 4-0 but came back and took game two 5-3 to split the series against the Golden Falcons.

WHAT HAPPENED
GAME TWO: W, 5-3

  • The Rams got on the scoreboard first off a Remy Smith sacrifice fly, making it 1-0 Jefferson at the top of the first. The Golden Falcons tied it up in the bottom of the same inning off an error

  • Jefferson responded in the second as another Felician error allowed Becca Shuler to make it to homeplate and create a 2-1 lead for the Rams. The Golden Falcons responded once more as a grounded out helped even it out again

  • The next four innings were scoreless for both teams, with outs on caught steals and strikes as it stayed 2-2

  • The top of the sixth saw the Rams add three runs to go ahead once more. Devin Brandley nailed a homerun to make it 3-2. A Lily Hutt one-run single and Bridget Shields one-run triple added two more scores, creating a 5-2 lead heading to the latter part of the game

  • The bottom of the inning saw Jefferson defense hold on with two fielder's choices and a flyout to hold strong in the final inning

  • Jefferson looked to pull away in the seventh to secure the victory, but Felician had an opportunity to even it out after making it 5-3 from a one-run single with the tying run at-bat. A pop out to the first basemen concluded the second game, with Jefferson getting their first conference win on the season

  • Hutt secured her first collegiate victory on 6.1 innings pitched, allowing only four hits and two earned runs on the day with two strikeouts. Stevens gets her first save in her career, pitching the final 0.2 innings
