Second Half Push Gives Women's Basketball Win Against East Stroudsburg
PHILADELPHIA – Being up by two points at the break, Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball (3-0) scores 44 of their 64 points in the second half and earns their first home victory of the season as the Rams get the 64-49 win over East Stroudsburg University (2-1) in Wednesday evening action.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Jefferson scored 13 points in the first quarter, edging out the Warriors with their 10. Carolyn Sipprell and Jordyn Thomas had four points in the quarter with two baskets. Emily Spratt added three points off a shot and free throw. Gabby Recinto put her own shot in the net as well
- The Rams were held in check in the second quarter, being outscored 8-7. Recinto put another shot in the basket alongside Ana Pellecchia. Jade Marquez made her shot and went 1-2 at the free throw line as Jefferson was ahead of East Stroudsburg 20-18 at the break
- The Rams made adjustments and came out strong in the second half, scoring 28 points, more than they did in the first 20 minutes, while holding the Warriors to 11. Spratt put up the first six points of the quarter and had 18 of her team-leading 27 points in the third. Recinto put up six points while Tori Nigro made her basket to make it 48-29 heading to the final quarter.
- East Stroudsburg went to put up 20 points in the fourth while Jefferson had 16, holding off the Warriors comeback and winning 64-49. Recinto, Spratt, and Nigro all scored in the quarter while Pellecchia hit back-to-back three pointers to finish the game for the Rams
