Women's Lacrosse Finishes Season with Tight Matchup Against Georgian Court
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse (7-8) headed into the fourth quarter tied at 10-10 with the Lions, but were unable to hold them off as the Rams ended their season with a back and forth matchup against Georgian Court University (13-6).
WHAT HAPPENED
The Lions jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before
Iris Gluck put the Rams on the board with 1:24 remaining in the first quarter. The Lions scored again 56 seconds into the second but
Erin Avanzato responded in return with two unassisted goals to bring the Rams within one. At 12:15 in the second, junior
Gabby Modzelewski tied the game before E. Avanzato put the Rams ahead at 8:57 remaining in the quarter. The Lions scored twice before E. Avanzato scored her fourth goal of the quarter to tie the game at 6 going into halftime.
Modzelewski and
Carina Raymond both put their shots in the back of the net early in the third to give the Rams an 8-6 lead. With 10:17 remaining in the third the Lions scored but the Rams once again responded with goals by
Emma Baker and
Lynn Hardy to put the Rams ahead 10-7. The Lions scored three unanswered goals to tie things going into the fourth and then took the lead with 13:18 remaining in the game. Hardy and Modzeleski each scored again to get a 12-11 lead but the Rams were unable to respond to three late goals by the Lions and wound up falling 15-12.
