Women's Lacrosse Back on Track with 19-9 Win Over Bridgeport 


BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse (6-6, 6-2) looks to get higher positioning for the postseason as the Rams traveled to Connecticut and earned a 19-9 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over the University of Bridgeport (9-5, 4-4) in Saturday afternoon competition. 

WHAT HAPPENED 
The Rams started out with a strong offense, scoring four goals in the first three minutes as Erin Avanzato scored three of her team-high five goals in that timespan. Iris Gluck put up a goal during that stretch. Bridgeport responded with three of their own goals as they trailed Jefferson 4-3. Gabby Mozdelewski and Audrey Strock contributed to the Rams' lead with three goals in the last minute of the first quarter, going up 7-3 heading into the second quarter. 

Modzelewski and Carnia Raymond each added a goal to begin the second quarter. After the Purple Knights scored, Gluck, Strock, and Raymond all made their shots in the net for Jefferson. Bridgeport put a goal in the final minute of the first half, but Jefferson went into the break still up 12-5. 

The third quarter saw both teams score three goals apiece in that timespan. Bridgeport scored the first goal of the second half, but E. Avanzato responded with her own shot in the net less than a minute later. After another Purple Knights goal, Raymond followed her teammates actions, scoring on her shot less in 54 seconds. Ellie Lefton put another score on the board for Jefferson. The Purple Knights got their last goal on the board of the quarter, with Jefferson still leading 19-9. 

Lefton and Gluck started the fourth quarter with their own goals, getting the Rams to a double-digit lead. Bridgeport cut the running clock away with their own shot in the net with 5:30 to go in the game. The Rams' were able to get it back to a 10-point differential by Emma Baker scoring, finishing the game at 19-9 in favor of Jefferson.

Jefferson now returns to Ravenhill Field for their final two regular season home contests. The Rams will have their final CACC contest on Tuesday, April 23 when they face Holy Family University at 3:30 p.m.
