Women's Lacrosse Four-Game Win Streak Snapped Against Mercy
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse (4-4) were on the road as they saw their four-game winning streak snapped in a 15-8 defeat to Mercy University (4-6) in Saturday afternoon non-conference action.
WHAT HAPPENED
Jefferson got out early with Ellie Lefton making her shot in the first three minutes of the game. Erin Avanzato scored on a man-up to add to the Rams' lead, making it 2-0 in the first quarter. The Mavericks added a goal at the end of the first quarter, with Jefferson up 2-1 heading into the second.
Mercy put another shot into the net to tie it at 2-2 early in the second, but the Rams added three straight goals to retake their lead. Lynn Hardy started it off with a man-up goal at the 11:00 minute mark. Reagan Rogers followed her teammate less than a minute later with a score as well. E. Avanzato concluded the scoring at the 9:31 mark, making it 5-2 in favor of Jefferson. Mercy put in two goals before the break, with Jefferson still at the advantage 5-4.
The Mavericks would dominate the third quarter, scoring five goals while holding the Rams to zero during those 15 minutes. Mercy then put in six shots to the back of the net to affirm their lead, with Gabby Modzelewski scoring twice and Carina Raymond making her shot in the net in the fourth as Jefferson fell to the Mavericks 15-8.
