Women's Lacrosse Opens Season with Loss to #3 West Chester 


WEST CHESTER, PA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team (0-1) opened their spring season with a tough test against the nationally ranked Golden Rams. The Rams would fall early on and would not be able to recover as Jefferson fell 19-6 to #3 ranked West Chester University (1-0) in non-conference action. 

WHAT HAPPENED 
Erin Avanzato won the first draw control of the season, but West Chester pushed the pace as they scored the first four goals in the quarter. Avanzato would score first for the Rams on a free position play at the 6:29 mark, but two more Golden Rams goals pushed West Chester up 6-1. 

West Chester won the draw control battle in the second quarter as they added another three goals to get them at 9-1. Gabby Modzelewski scored with 21 seconds left to play to add another goal for Jefferson. West Chester would get one more before the Golden Rams went into the break up 10-2. 

West Chester would get the first two goals to begin the third period. Emma Baker would get a goal on a free position, but the Golden Rams added another two goals to get in a double-digit lead. Carina Raymond would get a goal on a man-up as Ellie Lefton assisted her to get the score 14-4. The Golden Rams would get one more goal to go into the fourth up 15-4.  

After West Chester scored another goal to begin the fourth, Raymond and Baker would add a goal to get two consecutive goals for Jefferson. The Golden Rams would have the final three goals as they would win over Jefferson 19-6.

Jefferson will face another PSAC opponent as they have their first home game on Wednesday, February 28 as the Rams take on Millersville University at 3 p.m.
